Knee replacement
Artificial surfaces made from metal and plastic are used to cap the ends of the damaged thigh and lower leg (shin) bones and usually the kneecap.
Hip replacement
Shoulder replacement
A surgeon replaces the damaged shoulder joint with a new, artificial joint. The shoulder joint consists of the upper arm bone (humerus), the shoulder blade (scapula) and the clavicle (collar bone).
