Clinical Pastoral Education

Since its inception in 1951, the Clinical Pastoral Education Program at Legacy Health has introduced lay persons, graduate theological students and ordained/licensed clergy persons to specialized forms of ministry within the context of a modern health care system and parish settings. Students engage in such activities as spiritual care visits, peer group seminars, verbatim case conferences, patient care conferences, interdisciplinary team meetings and individual supervision. In the context of these activities, the student has the supervised opportunity to explore pastoral and personal identity, learn from and about interpersonal relationships, and examine their attitudes, values, culture and theological assumptions about life and ministry.
