Short Bio:Robert M. Kinast MD is a glaucoma surgeon, Associate Director of the Glaucoma Fellowship, and Residency Site Director at the Devers Eye Institute. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor at the OHSU Casey Eye Institute and past winner of the Casey Eye Residency Faculty Teaching Award. He received his medical degree from the University of Michigan Inteflex Program (combined B.A./M.D. program) in Ann Arbor, followed by internship at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and residency at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco. He completed sub-specialty training in glaucoma at the Devers Eye Institute. Dr. Kinast’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the American Glaucoma Society (AGS). He was awarded an AGS Mentoring for the Advancement of Physician Scientists Award based on an eye drop delivery aid and bottle. He developed a smart eye drop adherence monitor with engineers from Oregon State University via an NIH Small Business Technology Transfer award. His team has won an OHSU Biomedical Innovation Program Award for a novel tube implant. He previously led a liquid chromatography laboratory in conjunction with chemists from Portland State University to study the compounding and storage of mitomycin C. Dr. Kinast holds 4 patents with several others pending. Prior to medicine Dr. Kinast worked in business development at UConnections.com and briefly at DiamondCluster International, a strategy consulting firm. He studied the Anthropology of Religion at the University of Michigan and Oxford University. |
