BLS provider courses
Legacy Health is currently using the AHA blended learning option for BLS certification which involves two parts. Part one consists of the completion of the HeartCode BLS online course.Part two requires attending an in-person skills validation session. Once both components are successfully completed, the BLS certification eCard is issued. Legacy Health is NOT currently offering traditional classroom BLS certification courses.
Legacy Health offers the AHA HeartCode BLS certification course for both Legacy employees and non-Legacy community members requiring certification for healthcare providers.
For those who are not healthcare providers, please email Legacycpr@lhs.org for information regarding the AHA Heartsaver CPR/AED certification classes.
Registration process
Legacy employees
- Email Legacycpr@lhs.org and request the HeartCode BLS online course-this course is NOT automatically assigned and must be requested
- Complete the online course
- Print off the course completion certificate and bring it to the skills validation session
- Register for a one hour in-person BLS skills validation session in E+ (sessions are located under the title CPS.BLS Skills Validation Session)
Non-Legacy community members
- Email Legacycpr@lhs.org for instructions on how to access the HeartCode BLS online course through the AHA online eLearning site
- Email Legacycpr@lhs.org to register for a skills validation session at Legacy Health
- Complete the online course
- Print off the course completion certificate and bring it to the skills validation session
- There is a $35 skills validation session fee payable to Legacy Health the day of class

- Registration is required to attend an in-person skills validation session and participants arriving to the session without the course completion certificate will need to reschedule
CPR – Basic Life Support instructor
Legacy offers initial and update courses for CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) instructor classes.
Heartsaver CPR AED Course
This class does NOT meet the requirements for healthcare provider certification! This certification class is intended for the non-clinical person. Participants will learn the skills of CPR for all ages, use of the automated external defibrillator and relief of foreign-body obstruction. Classes are taught according to current American Heart Association guidelines.

Once both components are successfully completed, the Heartsaver CPR AED certification certificate of completion or eCard is issued.

- Register for a 2-hour in-person skills validation session in E+ (session title is CPS.Heartsaver CPR /AED)

- Email Legacycpr@lhs.org to register for a skills validation session at Legacy Health
- Complete the online course
- Print off the course completion certificate and bring it to the skills validation session

After successfully completing the course, a certificate of completion will be issued. If an American Heart Association certification card is needed, a fee will be assessed. Please contact Legacycpr@lhs.org for details.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) training
Information regarding ACLS training options are available on the Legacy intranet.
Organ and tissue requestor training
The organ and tissue requestor courses prepare the participant with the knowledge and skills to work with families for organ, eye and tissue donation. This is a national program, sponsored by the Pacific Northwest Transplant Bank. To become a “requestor” each participant takes an initial course and renews annually through an online recertification course. Visit the Pacific Northwest Transplant Bank website for more information.
