Free training teaches how to stop traumatic bleeding

The top cause of preventable death in trauma is bleeding. Many eople who have died from traumatic injuries could have survived with quick bleeding control. National Stop The Bleed Day brings instructors and folks in the community together for a day of training, free of charge.
OHSU, Legacy, Portland Fire & Rescue are partnering to provide free training to Portland-area residents March 31 on how to take immediate action to stop and control bleeding, and prevent death in a crisis.
WHAT:
On National Stop the Bleed Day, March 31, trauma and emergency medical services teams from OHSU, Legacy and Portland Fire & Rescue will teach a medical response that bystanders can use to save lives in the critical first minutes after an injury that causes bleeding.
The free course will include hands-on training in tourniquet application, applying direct pressure and packing an injury using hemostatic gauze.
Instructors will include:

DETAILS:
Course participants will be taught the same life-saving bleeding control techniques used by military personnel in Iraq and Afghanistan. Stop the Bleed is a national campaign developed by the American College of Surgeons in partnership with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians.
