In response to a surge of pediatric RSV cases
PORTLAND, ORE. – November 16, 2022 – “At Randall Children’s Hospital, we are at 100% capacity for pediatric patients in both the emergency department and pediatric inpatient units. We are implementing creative and safe solutions to meet the community demand for pediatric beds, including pulling nurses to work extra shifts and pulling nurses from administrative roles and operating rooms. To create capacity, we’ve postponed some non-urgent pediatric procedures. We will continue looking for options, including bringing in additional providers, to ensure we can keep our acute pediatric beds open.
At Legacy Health, we are grateful for the executive order issued yesterday by Governor Brown, as it will help us be more flexible with staffing, including drawing on a pool of medical volunteers to help care for pediatric patients.”
Dr. Jim McCord, interim chief medical officer for Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel
