About Me:

Dr. Ellen Michaelson grew up in New England and has been in NW Portland since 2008 at HealthMax Primary Care. Dr. Michaelson did her training in New York City and worked at Harlem Hospital on faculty at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in Hematology. After a year in rural practice in the Dalles, Oregon, she joined the faculty at OHSU in General Medicine and was Director of the Anticoagulation Clinic. She continues on faculty as Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dr. Michaelson was an NEH Fellow in Medical Humanities and is the vice president of the board at the NW Narrative Medicine Collaborative. Her debut novel, The Care of Strangers, winner of the 2019 Miami Book Fair/de Groot Prize, was published by Melville House in November 2020. Her work has appeared in Creative Nonfiction, Portland Monthly, Literature and Medicine, and Women in Solitude (SUNY Press). When not busy writing or seeing patients, she is bicycling around Portland, the NW and beyond.
