Quality Corner: 2021 CI program at a glance
2020 brought many challenges to our network, but our CI program and LHP practices continue to thrive. We are grateful for the unwavering care your practice and providers have administered during this unprecedented time. The Quality and Membership Committee recommended – and the LHP Board approved – the 2021 clinical integration (CI) program.
No new quality measures are being added in 2021 to avoid increasing the burden on providers and to allow the network to focus on improving performance on the strong set of measures already in place. New citizenship measures include virtual video visits and risk adjustment factor (RAF) education.
Performance on quality measures during the last year was impressive in several areas, including patient safety, childhood immunizations, cancer screening and care coordination. We made marked improvement in utilization measures since 2018 but still have the opportunity to impact appropriate ED utilization and high-tech imaging utilization to demonstrate effective management of our patient populations.
Other areas of opportunity for improvement that we will focus on in 2021 include:
- Comprehensive diabetes care, particularly diabetic eye exams where performance is well below national and regional benchmarks
- In-network coordination of admissions and emergency room visits so outcomes and experience can be managed more effectively and efficiently
