About Me:

My interest in General Surgery began while studying Biology in high school. The influence of a great biology teacher and the mentorship of a General Surgeon who allowed me to volunteer with him sparked an interest in the human body and surgery. That interest led to a degree in Zoology and a career in medicine. I dedicated the next 9 years to becoming a General Surgeon. Medical school took me to Missouri and the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. There I learned the importance of the patient and that healing is not only a science but incorporates the mind, body, and spirit. After medical school, I began my General Surgery Residency at a small community hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. For the next five years, I worked to learn the skills and art of surgery from many teachers in various subspecialties. While there, I served as the Chief Resident and Chief Surgical Resident, which helped me learn valuable time management and people skills.

Residency: Summa Western Reserve Hospital, Ohio Unv

Dr. Starley and his staff are amazing. I came to them with a problem I've been experiencing for over 5 years. He understood what was happening and made a comprehensive plan to help me through performing robotic surgery to remove the problem area. This is the 8th surgery I've had in the last 20 years and this was by far the easiest and most successful surgery of any of them. The time spent in the hospital was minimal and my recovery time was very short. I would not hesitate to recommend Dr. Starley to anyone seeking a remedy to a complicated medical situation. He listened to me and respected all of my concerns. Thank you for helping me and making my life easier to live.

I have been out of the Oregon area for 3 plus years and have not seen Dr. Starley since 2019 I believe. I returned to get some help with some pain I've been having in my hip/groin area. After shuffling from a primary care Doctor to an Orthopedic Doctor and physical therapy I made an appt. With Dr. Starley because I remembered him as being caring and patient and extremely approachable. It was like coming home. He listened went over my chart and discussed how to move forward. I wish he was my primary care Doctor! And I may actually use him for that in the future even though I now live on the West side. He is a wonderful human being and Doctor.

The doctor's style made it very easy for me to relate to him. He was warm and friendly and yet professional.

Dr. Starley was very helpful, answering questions and showing me the ct scan results, explaining what I was looking at. He had a great manner with humor and I left feeling relieved rather than fearful. It was a very good visit.

The question where you ask about my medical team. My medical team has doctors outside the Legacy system. Dr. Starley and his staff are phenomenal. My primary care doctor, who is outside of the Legacy system, recommended him from a conference he led. They were quite impressed with him.

When I called to set a date for hernia surgery the lady on thr phone insulted me and refused to get me a note for my workers comp and repeatedly asked why I hadn't returned to work, 5 times. Unfortunately my boss lost his contract and had to lay off his entire crew. All while I have been hurt. This wasn't really the nurse/ assistants job to question me about this, and she shamed me for not working. Awful!! I had to hang up on her. After my last office visit she again refused to give me any paperwork proving I was at the appointment which I need for workers comp. Dr starly is fine, glad he is doing my surgery.
