Soon, Legacy Health providers will have additional tools to safely care for COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients.

Legacy Health has been awarded a federal grant of nearly $370,000 to expand telehealth services to treat and monitor patients in intensive care units and emergency departments, as well as primary and specialty care clinics.

The grant will fund telemedicine carts, tablets, and a new video visit platform, which will ensure continued access to care and limit the spread of COVID-19, particularly among patients with chronic conditions who are more vulnerable to infection.

Virtual visits reduce exposure to the virus and conserve personal protective equipment (PPE). They also allow specialty providers to assess patients at other hospitals.

Legacy had begun expanding its video visit telehealth program before receiving the grant, thanks to seed funding from the Good Samaritan Foundation. Those funds supported new telehealth equipment as well as two staff positions, which faciliated Legacy’s ability to rapidly expand telehealth services at the start of the pandemic.
