Comprehensive epilepsy care in Portland

Epilepsy is a disorder known for causing seizures. It is caused from electrical events in the brain. Legacy Health has a long history of trusted epilepsy diagnosis, as well as monitoring and care. Our treatment service in this area began in 1975 as one of only five in the nation and the first of its kind in the region. Today, we diagnose and treat children and adults at Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center and Randall Children's Hospital at Legacy Emanuel, both of which are located in Portland, OR.

We care for epilepsy patients with compassion and understanding. We understand how important the proper diagnosis and right medication is to quality of life. Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center is accredited by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers as a level 3 epilepsy center. Personalized epilepsy treatment

Our doctor will create a treatment plan designed to control seizures as much as possible. It is also important to find the right medications so patients can enjoy as many activities as possible. Our doctor will listen to all of a patient’s goals for treatment and consider:

  • The patient’s personal situation.
  • The kind of seizures they have had and how often they have had them.
  • The effectiveness of medication.

We offer the latest advancements in epilepsy treatment. Our epilepsy program offers deep brain stimulation (DBS) as a treatment option. In DBS, a neurosurgeon places an electrode inside the brain to block signals that cause seizures and other movement problems. Learn more about DBS
