Randall Children's Hospital is committed to the quality, safety and value of the care that we provide. Our people, patients, community and world deserve to have a children's hospital where transforming the safety and quality of care we deliver is a never-ending priority. "Zero" is the only acceptable goal related to patient safety, and one that we all strive for. That is why we've created our Zero Now program to guide us in our journey to zero preventable harm.

Here are five ways you can be a part of our Safety Team at Randall Children's Hospital.  You can also download these tips to share with your family members for visiting at the hospital.

Share your concerns

Advocate for your child. Don’t be shy; raise safety concerns. If you can’t ask your questions right away, write them on a white board or notepad and ask them later.

Wash your hands

Wash your hands and your child’s hands when you enter and leave the hospital, the patient room, the bathroom and treatment areas like X-ray. It’s OK to remind others to wash hands, too.

Be skin savvy

If you notice redness or irritation on your child’s skin, please tell their caregivers. If your child has dressings over an IV catheter or wound, make sure the dressings stay clean and dry.

Understand the meds

Ask for the names of your child’s medications and how they help. It’s OK to remind caregivers to doublecheck the child’s ID band before giving medications.

Get ready to go home

Know what follow-up care is needed including medications and treatments, what to look for that might require a call to the doctor and when to plan a follow-up visit.
