A good fit: Legacy bike helmets and kids

Vancouver area kids are sporting Legacy Health bike helmets, thanks to a program supported by Legacy Emanuel Trauma Services. They provided below cost helmets to families at the annual Clark County Fire #6 Open House.

They sold nearly 2-hundred helmets. "It's a good sign that parents and grandparents are checking their kids helmets to make sure they have them and they still fit," said Geri Bartz, one of the program coordinators of Legacy Trauma Nurses Talk Tough, an injury prevention program. "We know from experience, a helmet is the best protection against life altering injuries."

Legacy Salmon Creek High School volunteers assisted in the distribution, sizing and fitting the helmets. "We have a great team of volunteers," said Laura Walsh, Director of Volunteer Services at Legacy Salmon Creek. "We have the largest hospital high school volunteer group in the state. They take their jobs very seriously and want to be of help in the hospital and out in the community." 

Trauma Nurses Talk Tough is funded in part, by donations. Oregon Trial Lawyers Association  provide a generous grant which makes this program possible. The next Legacy bike helmet sale is at the Good in the Hood event on Saturday, June 23rd.  The helmets cost $6 either cash or check.
