Unlock your most powerful tool

The best way to fight cancer is to take steps to reduce your risks. The chemicals in the environment, in home products and in what you eat may play a big role in your risk factors for breast cancer and other cancers. Learn what you can do to reduce these risk factors.

How to reduce exposure

  • Read product labels: Look at cosmetics, shampoos and lotions and other products to avoid products with “placental extracts” or “parabens.” Look for “paraben-free” options.
  • Avoid certain plastics and petroleum-based products: Use BPA-free plastics and limit exposure to “polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons” found in charcoal for grilling, diesel fuel, tobacco smoke and more.
  • Reduce exposure to pesticides in foods: Choose organic fruits and vegetables when possible
  • Don’t smoke: One of the best things you can do to improve your health is to not smoke.
