An upcoming hospital stay can be stressful for your child and your family. It’s our goal to help you feel prepared and confident. 

What to bring

  • Robe and slippers
  • Toiletries such as toothbrush, toothpaste and hairbrush
  • Your insurance card
  • Any medications that your child’s doctor asked you to bring

What to leave at home

  • Valuables such as your child’s jewelry, purses and wallets
  • Electrical appliances such as radio or curling iron

The admission process

When you check in, a patient registration specialist will greet you and your child, gather your information and help you with any financial arrangements. Pre-admission nurses will also be available to help with your child’s admission. We know you may have a lot of questions, so please feel free to ask.

You will receive information about your rights, responsibilities and any pertinent financial matters. In addition, you’ll be asked to sign a Conditions of Patient Registration form, which allows your child’s doctor and the hospital staff to provide care for your child. If you have any questions about this form, ask a staff member.

We’re here to help  

Our admission staff and nurses are available from the moment you arrive to address your concerns. If they cannot directly answer your question, they will find a hospital expert who can.

Legacy has access to interpreters for roughly 200 languages. If you feel more comfortable speaking in a language other than English, let us know. There is no charge for this service.

If for some reason you are faced with a difficult medical decision regarding your child, our Clinical Ethics Program is available for guidance. On the hospital phone, simply dial “0” and ask for the ethics representative on call.
