Ever since I was a little girl I battled with my weight. No matter how hard I tried I couldn’t keep the weight off. In 2017, I was ready to take an important step towards reclaiming my health.

I wanted to live a healthier lifestyle because I was completely disassociated from my body. I ate whatever I wanted and didn’t think about it. It was easy not to think about how much I was eating or how little I was moving, because I really didn’t feel myself inside of my body. I had no mind-body connection.

That’s when I enrolled in a weight-loss surgery program at Legacy Weight and Diabetes Center. Then, on July 4, 2017, I had gastric bypass surgery. I have since lost 140 pounds and kept the weight off.  I needed help to achieve these health goals. I only wish I had chosen ]sooner.

I stay motivated and grounded to stick to healthy habits by listening to my body and doing what my body likes to do. Yoga and Pilates have really helped me connect with my body. There is a connection to my mind and body that happens when I try to hold poses or practice the “100.”

I used to do exercises that I thought I should be doing in order to lose weight. Now I only do cardio that I love, like hip hop dance and walking in my neighborhood. I also do strength training.

Losing weight has enabled me to be a more present mother to my 9 year old son. On the weekends, my son, husband and I like to have Nerf battles or jump shooting contests.
