About Me:

Dr. Sonia Bynum grew up in South America with a small but multicultural family that loves to travel. Having a wide range of interests, she studied biochemistry and business administration before moving to the United States. She completed her college degree in Biology at Texas A&M University in Corpus Christi, Texas, and received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston, Texas. Ready for a change in scenery, she then moved to the much colder city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania for her training in Internal Medicine and then Nephrology at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). Adapting to the northern climate was surprisingly easy, and she fell in love with the city’s residents, the rich and unique culture, and the sport of ice hockey. After completing her Residency and Fellowship training, Dr. Bynum moved to Portland, Oregon. She can be found dancing salsa or Argentine tango at local venues and outdoors.
