PML-RARA TRANSLOCATION, t(15;17) BY RT-PCR, QUANTITATIVE
The t(15;17) chromosomal translocation which leads to the PML/RARα fusion transcript is strongly associated with acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL). The detection of this highly characteristic abnormality is useful in the accurate diagnosis of APL. These tumor-specific markers can also be used to monitor the remission status of affected patients. RT-PCR provides a rapid alternative to cytogenetic analysis and may identify PML/RARα gene rearrangement in the absence of detectable t(15;17) by the latter technique.
Specimen Collection Requirements
Whole Blood or Bone Marrow, one 5.0 mL lavender (EDTA) or 3.0 mL bone marrow
Samples must be received within 48 hours of collection due to lability of RNA.
