Specimen Collection Requirements
Serum, one gold (SST) top tube
Separate serum from cells ASAP and refrigerate. Parallel testing is preferred and convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days from receipt of the acute specimens. Please mark specimen plainly as Acute or Convalescent.
Severely lipemic, contaminated, heat-inactivated or hemolyzed specimens
AFTER SEPARATION FROM CELLS: Ambient: 2 days; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year, avoid repeat freeze/thaw cycles
Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA)
0.79 IV or less: Negative, no significant level of detectable E. histolytica IgG antibody
0.80-1.19 IV: Equivocal, repeat testing in 10-14 days may be helpful
1.20 IV or greater: Positive, IgG antibody to E. histolytica detected, suggestive of a current or past infection.
