Specimen Collection Requirements
Serum, one gold (SST) or 7.0 mL red top tube.
Allow serum to clot completely at room temperature (minimum – SST: 30 minutes, red top tubes: 60 minutes). Centrifuge and separate serum from cells ASAP.
0.5 mL serum (whole blood 1.2 mL minimum draw)
Plasma. Microbially contaminated, heat treated, or specimens containing visible particulates.
Room Temp (18-26’C) 48 hours, Refrigerated (2-8’C) 10 days, Frozen (<-20’C) 1 year
Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Negative <27 IU/mL
Indeterminate 27-35 IU/mL
Positive >35 IU/mL
A positive test result for double stranded DNA (dsDNA) suggest Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) but must be confirmed by clinical findings and other serological tests.
